Elizabeth has a full-blown TOOTH! It started to poke through the gums a few days before we left for our trip. And since then, it has blossomed into a cute little peg! Its twin is coming in beside it now, and yesterday I felt a hint of one against her top gums! So it won't be long before she has a mouthful of teeth with which to masticate her food (oh...and Auntie P's face, apparently!)

Exploring the WORLD...
...or at least part of it! Elizabeth and Mommy were off to a short visit to Oklahoma and Texas last week! Yep...that's right, Oklahoma! Elizabeth made her first Alpha Phi chapter visit to the University of Oklahoma--to the newly renovated Phi chapter house! (Can you believe we got so busy I forgot to take pictures there?!?! Elizabeth was even sporting a trendy OU onesie from Team Sooner and an oh-so-hip Alpha Phi Legacy onesie from Susan S.! I will have to take pics of her in those another time!)
Ah, well! Anyway, shoutout to all the amazing girls who doted on Elizabeth and helped me out with her while we were there...and especially to Ali, whom Elizabeth seemed to take to right away
Anyway, after that we jetted down to Houston to stay with Grammy and Pop-Pop and have a visit with Grams and Grandmommy as well!

"Take Human Bites!"
That line from a commercial defines my childhood...or something. If anybody can tell me the name of the show from whence that line came, there's a shiny nickle in it for ya. I myself have no idea. Did it run on Broadway? Off-Broadway? In a small, unused compartment of my mind?
But I digress. Below is Purple eating an entire peach. With huge, monstrous bites. Or was she simply sucking on the juices left over from Mom's giant inhuman bites? Is this quickly becoming the blog of exaggeration?

Ministry of Silly Walks, part deux
So, Elizabeth is walking. All by herself. Sort of. Kinda. Not really. But she is "walking" with the aid of Grammy in this video. She definitely needs some "core" work, as she has no sense of balance. John Cleese, eat your heart out!

Green Beans Bad...Carrots Good!
At least, that's what we think Elizabeth is trying to tell us here!
Actually, for a while she didn't like anything that was green, and Auntie "I'll just have one teeny slice of pizza and a salad" P (who insists on having a salad with everything!--Peter even accuses her of putting salad-like garnishes in her cocktail!) is beside herself with concern that Elizabeth will end up like her Mommy--with a strong aversion to veggies!

But, never fear, Elizabeth still LOVES carrots and has even recently reconsidered and decided that peas are okay, too!

Attention Deficit?...
I think not!
Elizabeth has received nothing BUT attention for the last week--(well, arguably for the last eight and a half months--but we won't go into that!)
And, it's the best kind of attention too...the unconditional love and adoration kind! The kind that comes from Grandma and Grandpa for just being--for breathing out and breathing in--and for being a precious little grandbaby!
Hooray for visits from Grandma and Grandpa and lots of hugs and kisses!

"Metaphysical Constructs" and Other Gems
Here, Elizabeth gets her first exposure to the world according to Pop-Pop!
I think you had to be there to fully appreciate the moment in all of its humor, but let's just say that it included a pep-talk talk of sorts, wherein Pop-Pop impressed upon Elizabeth the importance of walking by 9 months, speaking in complete sentences, and pronouncing complex phrases like "metaphysical construct!"
What can we say....even Elizabeth was amused!

Bedtime Woe, Bedtime Mo!
From the day she was born up until about a month ago, we were still swaddling Elizabeth like a baby burrito for all her naps and when she went down to sleep at night! And I don't mean a light blanket tucked loosely around her body...I mean a very snug "no baby is coming out of this" kind of wrapping job that made her feel like she was being hugged all night long! What can we say? She liked it...a LOT! And we would have been more than happy to continue mummifying her in this way for as long as she liked it...if she had only stayed that way!
Unfortunately, however, at some point during the middle of the night, Baby Houdini managed to work herself out of the swaddle (yes...even the Miracle Blanket!, though this one worked the best!), and she would awaken (sometimes TWICE a night) and CRY until I would go in and rewrap her so she was all nice and snug! As soon as I did that, she fell right back to sleep again. After about three nights of this nonsense (well...what else do you call it when a baby who was sleeping through the night is now waking up to be reswaddled?!), Mommy and Daddy decided "no more!"
So, we braced ourselves for a long couple of nights of Elizabeth protesting to our harsh "let's kick the swaddling habit cold turkey" method...and I almost gave into my instinct to rush in and swaddle her several times in the first 20 minutes--until
Peter would remind me that to go in there and swaddle her meant that I would be getting up two more times that night and every night that followed, to do the same thing until she learned to sleep without being swaddled! So, into her room we would go to shush and pat, first letting 5 minutes go by, then 10, then 20, until she eventually fell asleep. (sigh!)
Needless to say, the first night was a little rough (for all three of us), but the second night she got the idea within a few minutes! Hooray! And now, she sleeps soundly in her crib all night just like this, with her little friend Mo (short for "Seymour") tucked right beside her!

Portrait of a Cutie
Big Girl Bath
While we were staying at the hotel in San Francisco, Elizabeth had the opportunity to take a bath in the BIG tub!
(At home we have a sliding door on our bathtub, so it makes it difficult to have easy access to her unless I were to climb in with her...so she'll have to wait until she's a bit more sturdy!) Anyway, she wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first, but before too long she was splashing and having a good time!

Fascinated!
Actually, I'm not sure who was more fascinated with what:
Elizabeth with this little "rain stick" toy, or Mommy with watching Elizabeth try to figure out this little "rain stick" toy!
I probably should have taken a video...but the only sound you on it would have been the little plastic beads spiraling from one end to the other. So I guess these pictures tell the story just as well.
Saving the Planet Is Always in Fashion...
...and Elizabeth is certainly doing her part!
Our last day in San Francisco was a lot cooler than the previous days, so we suddenly found ourselves on a mission to find a light jacket or sweater for Elizabeth. When we stumbled into the Wildlife Works Eco-Fashion Boutique, Grammy and Pop-Pop could not pass up the opportunity to outfit their grandbaby and save the planet at the same time!!! :-) (The owner of the shop runs a wildlife sanctuary in Kenya that focuses on helping endangered species, while providing jobs to the locals!)
Anyway, I'm sure you'll agree that the resulting ensemble not only served its purpose of keeping her warm, but also is indeed much more fashion-forward than your standard baby gear! And, more importantly, Elizabeth seems to dig it!
P.S. By the way, Lindsay...if you have a chance to get word to Dillon, ask him to go find this place in Kenya and bring you back some nifty threads for Beckett! haha!

ZONKED!
Awwwww...poor sweet Elizabeth!
All that sightseeing REALLY wore her out! Up and down the hills, in and out of the car, strolling along the Wharf to Pier 39, poking in and out of shops in Chinatown, hiking the Berkeley campus and the nature trails of Golden Gate Park! PHEW! She was such a good little traveler...and somehow, she even managed to get a few naps in along the way! Hooray!
Next Stop...Chinatown!

Along for the Ride
As you can see, this was the perfect device for both of them, and it suit her
We took about a million pictures on this trip...so stay tuned for more to come!
